Just the other day I was going for a walk and it suddenly struck me and what a monstrous, almost blasphemous waste it is to be such a terrible person that the world is legitimately, actively improved by your absence.

I think some of it is definitely that. A widespread “please clap” moment in the face of compounding resentment.

I think it’s more that fascists dread violence being normalized against them and so freak out whenever the status quo of the system is upended. For instance see the response to Luigi vs you’re annual school shootings.
