I’m looking to buy some cat toys that will last. I’m looking on Amazon – though I would love to avoid Amazon – and everything is terrible quality. Even if I sort by rating, everything still seems like junk.
There are some pretty sick toys, like this automatic motion activated laser that will move around the room when it senses motion. Or one of those balls that will role itself around the room. But neither seems to hold up.
I suppose I could stay away from the electronic stuff and just get some good old fashion manual cat toys. I’m looking to adopt a kitten, and I wanted to give him as much play time as he needs. I figured a few automatic toys for while I’m working could be good.
I highly recommend this toy called a Cat Dancer. Cats love playing with it, even the elderly ones. It’s basically a steel wire with some small rolled cardboard pieces on the end. I know how it sounds, but the way it moves really ignites their prey drive. Its durability really depends on the cat (mine last quite a while), but at least it’s cheap, and you can probably pick one up where you buy your supplies.
From my experience, cats get bored of laser pointers after a while when they realize they can never catch it.
They are all crap. I’ve never encountered any manufacturer of durable cat toys, and I have had cats my whole life. The thing that spins around under a cloth was a big hit with mine though. After that; twist ties, rubber bands, twist ties connected to rubber bands, random pieces of springy cellophane plastic, anything that can be batted around and will slide across a floor; many if not most cats very often prefer these little bits of stuff that is otherwise trash.
Cat Dancer is a toy that is extremely durable and it’s basically just trash, and every cat I’ve ever met loves it. And it’s almost free.
