It’s important to be factual. Hamas did not kill “more than 1,100 Israelis.” Israel killed some of those Israelis by enacting the Hannibal Directive, which says that Israel would rather kill its own people than have to negotiate for their release (by releasing some of the thousands more Palestinian hostages in Israeli captivity). We don’t know how exactly how many Israelis were killed by Israel because Israel won’t allow an investigation.

Also, hundreds of the Israelis killed on Oct. 7th were soldiers enforcing the siege and imprisonment of the Gaza concentration camp.

Zohran’s laudable opposition to Israeli genocide is not served by adopting, or failing to challenge, some of the propaganda used to wage it.

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.

[Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.

In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: a death toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language. I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.

This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.

These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity. We must answer it by modeling the very best: a relentless pursuit of our higher ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights.

This is the second post I’ve seen about random people replying to zohrans tweet, both of which seem to be somewhat critical from my understanding?

I don’t understand why there is a negative focus on this. Sure, it could be seen that it’s dumb he has to do the whole condemning the attack thing, but for one, it’s the anniversary of it, and two, if he didn’t both the Republicans and the bastards at the DNC would eat him alive. Zohran is probably one of the best and most productive left Democrats currently. I bet he has one of the better and more aggressive takes on Israel at this moment than damn near anyone else, so why focus on nitpicking his statement?
