No he wasn’t. He said he was going after the hardened criminals and gangbangers. Far as I’m aware, the vast majority have committed no real crimes except immigration, and a shit load of people who didn’t even violate that.

Almost no immigration violations are crimes, my friend. They are civil infractions.

Exactly, a misdemeanor. Not the gangsters he claimed he was going after. That’s my point. He said he was going after the hardened criminals, but how rarely that’s been happening, it seems they’re actually avoiding them and going after innocent people who came here legally.

Edit: they’re specifically avoiding the real gangs because they’re cowards.

They are 100% avoiding the actual criminal elements; why would an ICE officer risk his life to fill a quota if a bunch of guys with guns are worth the same amount as somebody’s nana who bakes food for church picnics etc?

The tariffs are also like basic income for international crime gangs; smuggling commercial goods is now a very valuable business. Why fight like the anti drug authorities when you can just buy a bunch of shit off the shelf and run it over the border posing as a spacex employee or something?

If that’s all you heard, you’re suffering from selective hearing. Often when Trump spoke of going after “hardened criminals”, it was in a manner that clearly conflated legal, documented immigrants and criminality.

Someone who has committed crimes but never been caught for them is just as much a criminal as someone who a court has found guilty, and to a significant proportion of Trump’s voter base, an immigrant with a clean record is just a criminal who hasn’t been caught yet.
