The Trump administration is considering sanctions against three French magistrates, according to the German magazine Der Spiegel, causing concern within the French judiciary. The judges in question sentenced Marine Le Pen on March 31, 2025, to four years in prison, including two mandatory years, and five years of ineligibility for embezzlement of public funds.

On December 30, 2025, the weekly publication reported on its website anonymous accounts from former US administration officials who said that Washington intends to sanction European magistrates and officials suspected of targeting the far right in France or in Germany. Der Spiegel explicitly cited the case of the three French judges.

“If such claims were proven true or were to materialize,” declared Peimane Ghaleh-Marzban, the president of the Paris judicial court, on January 6 during a session welcoming new magistrates, “they would constitute unacceptable and intolerable interference in our country’s internal affairs, which should provoke condemnation from the public authorities.”

    As a Canadian, I’m very happy that Trump is spreading his bullshit far and wide. Whenever he acts crazy towards Canada nothing but crickets from Europe. Maybe soon people will realize that we are all legitimate targets to the Trump regime and band together.

      I don’t think that’s true but you seem convinced of it. If by Europe you mean the leaders of the countries in Europe then ok they probably need to measure twice or more before saying something but the rest of the people I am quite sure we care about what it is doing to you guys.

      Btw keep up the boycotting of us goods and tourism because that is really cool!

        Hey - it’s nice to hear that more rank and file EU folks think about Canada. It does feel like we’ve been going it alone for most of the last year. Any voice of support is always appreciated.

          My thoughts are that we need to stop using us tech products. It will be hard for some time but we simply cannot trust them. Alexa is a useless tech anyway which is only used for spying people.

          Like I said, there are two layers: politics in Europe is not as loud as the shitshow in America. I still like to think of it as calculated. Then is the people who are mostly appalled and disappointed by what is happening in us and what they are doing to traditional allies.

          So yeah there are many things to replace, catch up, create. I fear there will be a time when even simple communication like this will not be possible anymore for a while… The Americans, much like toddlers really wanted to see what happens when you put the fork in the wall socket…
