The oil fields is what their war machine needed too, not moscow or any gritty industrial cities. They could have disabled the rails easy enough and bombed river traffic and cut off war supplies from them anyway from the generals’ plan.
But hitler thought he was a great tactical genius because his initial success that only worked because it was so reckless no one figured it would be attempted. And just a supreme leadet will always have it go to their head, surrounded by yes men and sycophants.
