That’s not why. Not really. It’s because leftwing populism is contrary to the desires of the oligarchs (campaign donors / etc) who own them, while rightwing populism is either acceptable or more often actually beneficial.
Republican / Democrat is offense / defense for the same team owners.
Controlled opposition is AOC / Bernie / increasingly-looking-like Zohran. Most Dems don’t even pretend to be effective opposition, unless you’re 50+ and think a strongly worded letter counts as opposition.
I think you are misunderstanding the term. You’re referencing actual opposition. Schumer/Jeffries and the majority of the rest of the party are opposition controlled by the oligarchs.
You think constantly reaffirming Israel’s right to exist, voting to continue funding its existence and armament, and using terms like “the Netanyahu government” instead of demanding an end to the entire rotten ethnostate apartheid colonial project qualifies as “opposition”?
