I hate how english handles those suffixes (ly, ing, able) after a vowel; do you omit the vowel, do you just plug the suffix onto the word?
The truth is that nobody really knows. There’s lots of “rules” in English, but they all get broken and just don’t make any sense. Spelling and grammar in English are rough.
