to consider that starship troopers was literally a product of a fascist society and continues to be consumed by fascists in a fascist society. Stop coping. There is no subtext unless the audience decides there is. The bugs are “bad guys” and the cool “evil” space nazis are the “good guys” (us!) and there’s no Secret Third Factor That Makes This Good. I think people are seeing something in the movie That just isn’t there. I mean, Verhoeven literally said that the troops not assaulting each other in the co-ed showers was a sign that fascism had drained them of humanity & they were too obsessed with the state.
