All roads lead back to the iPhone.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman might have hinted at this user experience change. In an X post shared before Kuo’s report, Altman said that it “feels like a good time to seriously rethink how operating systems and user interfaces are designed” and “(also the internet; there should be a protocol that is equally usable by people and agents).”

“Only by fully controlling both the operating system and hardware can OpenAI deliver a comprehensive AI agent service,” writes Kuo.

That comment about updating the internet’s protocol really feels like a buried lede.

      Ding Ding Ding Ding

“Qualcomm and MediaTek both provide open platforms so OpenAI could build anything from a Linux foundation, but it’s more likely they use Android. Android already provides you the telephony stack, networking, and low-level drivers for cameras and audio. It would be needless over-engineering to use an alternative.”

Instead of a grid of apps on your home screen that you tap to open, and then tap and swipe and tap some more, you’d simply tell an AI agent to do something, and then it’d do it for you.

I don’t understand why you would want an “Agent” to do stuff for you. This whole thing is just built on the assumption that people are helpless idiots. Which, maybe has some truth to it, but I’d rather spend billions on education than this slop.

Yeah “updating the internet’s protocol” reads to me as “make it impossible for 99% of people to have any control over it”

That meeting had to be like the Poochie meeting from The Simpsons.

“It has to be edgy, in your face, a totally outrageous paradigm. Like the original iphone, but more proactive.” [Boss leaves] “So, a phone okay with everybody?”

Are you talking about the years old Rabbit prototype? I guess at least that thing looked interesting. Then it turned out it was basically useless.
