Using international datasets, they demonstrate that imbalances in population structure, particularly an increasing proportion of men, affect male fertility. While men used to have higher fertility than women globally, this has reversed, and women have and will have a higher fertility rate than men. The scientists offer recommendations to counteract the social implications of this trend.

Sex selective abortions are relevant in some countries to some extent, but globally are almost nothing. It’s a red herring.
When you have 5 extra boys born for every 100 girls the default position is there are more reproductive aged men than women. The fact we haven’t had that has been because young boys and men disproportionately died compared to young girls and women globally. Modern medicine, laws, and general peace in most of the world has stopped that trend.
