Of these states, six have Democratic trifectas, 23 have Republican trifectas, and seven have divided governments. There are currently 14 states that do not require identification at the polls outside of what is required by federal law. Of these 14 states, 10 have Democratic trifectas, and four have a divided government.

    IIRC it’s essentially that you can’t be forced to show a document you have to pay for. So either they have to accept something you can obtain freely as ID, or they have to allow you to obtain an ID for free.

      Yup. Voter ID requirements were basically seen as a poll tax by proxy. It’s the poll tax that was the problem, not the ID.
