I’ve noticed that most rhetoric like this tends to come moreso from “serial daters”, and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a lot to do with defensive ego stuff or being jaded from past experiences.

I tend to read posts like this with a tongue-in-cheek tone of people just venting steam from previous dating experiences, like the dude has probably been stiffed with the bill a lot, and maybe the chick has been pushed around in the past. And then it becomes like a snowball effect because people who read this stuff on the internet that feel the same way take it at face value rather than something sardonic, so they project the whole “Aha! This is the reason why I struggle with X” response to it. So even if both people in this post were just being funny, when they see each other’s posts, there’s a reflexive ego incentive to take their joke slightly more literally.

We all just gotta step back sometimes and not take everything as personal gospel. It’s making people with no experience in these areas go into situations like dating as combat, expecting some variety of this to transpire with malicious intent, ironically fueling that very perception.
