    Middle school had me convinced that herpes was one of the worst things you could get and that having it would make you an outcast weirdo.

    It’s herpes simplex 1, the one known for cold sores. Although HSV2, known for genital herpes, has start becoming a cause of cold sores.

      Herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) is not EBV (herpesvirus 4 aka HHV-4). Right family, but different virus.

      No it’s not, at least not according to Wikipedia.

      Epstein-Barr virus is a different herpes virus that causes mono, which is not the same as HSV1 with its cold sores
