Cuz the comments throught Lemmy/Piefed seems to indicate that literally every user on here is a FOSS/Dencentralization Purist and has 100% abandoned mainstream platforms.

I wonder if this is actually true or just a small minority of users being overrepresented.

I’m probably not “the norm”, but the only mainstream social media I have ever used was Reddit, and that stopped like whenever the first big exodus happened (2 years? I think?). I never used Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram or whatever else was oo still is used by people.

Now I’m assuming you mean “conversational” platforms that are mostly for talking to other people (or corporations these days). I do watch YouTube (not shorts), but to me and the way I use it that’s closer to watching TV.

      Yup, this is me too.

I guess Lemmy counts as social media, though probably not mainstream (yet?). Used to be on reddit, sometimes watch youtube, but I don’t even comment there or do anything other than watch videos when someone happens to link one.

Never really was a social media person, I mean, that’s the last thing I need, more ways for people to find me and demand my attention. Though I have noticed that a lot of people think there’s something wrong with you if you don’t use any social media, even some employers who try to look you up online. Crazy, imo.
