Before it was already 75% cheaper (not sure how long already) but that was advertised as a (temporary) discount.
I thought it was free? Or is it that the free version is an older model
This is API stuff for enterprise (business) usage. Things like running AI chat through your videogame or whatever.
you can download the model, but it’s easier and cheaper in the short term to get an API key than getting the hardware and some admin guy to host it yourself.
I imagine the mood at OpenAI, Anthropic, etc is fucking grim

Tell Trump to ban it on national security grounds immediately as a form of protectionism that has worked well for other industries obviously. He’ll need to make a donation to make it happen naturally.
Banning the API and chat, sure. But banning the open access models is going to be a difficult.
