The internet you grew up on isn’t dying.
A commercial veneer glued on top of it is.
For the less technical, this is why we can lose instances (lemmy.sdf.org is the most recent one I noticed), but the fediverse will never go away: the fediverse is protocol-based (ActivityPub) like email.
Isnt Lemmy.sdf.org back in the last week or so?
Ah that’s awesome, thanks for letting me know. I post to their Seattle community instead of the one on lemmy.world because I prefer to move things off default instances, so I’m excited to get back on my “posting stuff to communities no-one frequents” bullshit.
Thank you for doing that. That’s actually very important to the overall health of the Fediverse.
Aw shucks. Hopefully this’ll inspire me to get off my lazy butt and finally get around to moving all the soccer communities off lemmy.world
Go for it! You have my support! Thank you!
This was worth reading. It made me a bit nostalgic for a simpler time when the net seemed untamed and full of possibility.
Actually made me consider getting a working finger response on my server.
Feels like most people here will agree with it, but the average person vegging out on instatok is harder to reach.
Great read!
Fuck, his music is good.
