The problem is we’re at a point where we’re looking at the workforce being made onselete in many industries if AI and self driving get to a point where people aren’t needed. So there will be less work for many people, and now we’re looking at increasing the number of years worked, which effectively increases the workforce.
Instead we should be looking at how we can reduce hours and get better work life balance. The problem, as always, is who will pay for it. As capitalism is set up to divert the profits upwards, it only gets worse over time, with less people working for themselves and sharing the profits, and more people being employees with less control over their destiny.
More coops, more tax in larger companies and help to let smaller companies and individuals compete is needed. Not increased retirement age. Or change the system.
