I can’t begin to count the number of times I’m glad I have this place as a respite from how godawful most of the western English-speaking internet culture and moderation is.

On the whole, you try to enforce basic ideological lines people shouldn’t mess with and you don’t treat politics like dirt to sweep under the rug. Those two alone already make it stand out from a lot of spaces on the internet. And you aren’t reactionary or liberal about it, which together with the other two, really makes it stand out.

This may sound exaggerative since it’s “just an internet forum”, but I want to say it’s like a little preview of what life could be like if I lived under an AES state. A world where the system itself says no to the worst tendencies and supports betterment in theory and practice of ideology explicitly. Like it’s a night and day difference in feel when you are a lone person trying to draw attention to a problem vs. when the system and community are on your side.

At the same time i find this to be a very open place that doesn’t stifle discussion in that obnoxious way that liberal/ultra-leftist spaces with purity fetishes do, which is very good for encouraging newcomers to ask questions and learn without feeling like they are in a sectarian echo-chamber. So long as there is no apologia for fascism, imperialism or genocide of course…
