The regulation calls out 19 vehicle functions which must have physical controls inside the vehicle, with additional requirements about size and usability of the buttons.

Those functions include:

So what just sweat or stop driving entirely and adjust the temp because it gets a tad warm? That’s silly

My 2007 has absolutely no touchscreen and I can adjust my AC/Heat easily. Takes only a second. Believe it or not people are actually more focused when they are at a comfortable temperature and I promise you 99.9% of people will dig through the touchscreen menu while driving to adjust these things

Traffic lights? Literally any rest stops if you are on highways?

Drivers are just so entitled they just can’t wait a short period of time to adjust your other controls a little bit later.

Or you just have a normal car with physical buttons and knobs so you don’t need to stop when you want to adjust things?? Like why are you solving a problem that touchscreens invented?

In the end it’s just a regulation restricting things that are absolutely necessary when driving to physical buttons, the same regulation does not prevents companies from making cars that uses physical buttons for these optional stuffs. You are free to buy cars from companies that do, the regulation is solely created for safety reasons.

You being such a baby that can’t live without 1 feature doesn’t mean everything must be mandated to cater to you, thus proving my point - drivers are entitled.

Also there’s 1 legit reason to not use physical knobs for those - voice/software controls. A software controlled value may get mismatched with the position of the knob, unless you spend a lot of money to have a motor control those knobs. And you might say “what if they use those digital knobs things that only send the rotation?”, now that will not have a proper feedback on where the dial starts and ends, and you end up having to LOOK at the indicator to know whether you set them to the correct settings again, making it just as distracting as using the digital screens.

No, we’re just used to physical controls. This has nothing to do with entitlement, and everything to do with muscle memory and tactile control. Clearly you don’t drive, that’s fine.

Edit: Not reading that phat edit.
