Suburban people buy SUVs because they’re big with lots of space, and they’re safer. It’s a circular thing too, because when everyone else has one you need one to be “safer” in an accident, rinse and repeat.

99% of them aren’t 4WD. The number of actual 4WDs you see driving around are negligible. Most SUVs don’t even have a AWD option, let alone AWD.

When I go to visit one of my good mates the round trip is longer than driving the entire size of your country from top to bottom.

Australia is over 200x the size of the Netherlands. What works in the Netherlands doesn’t necessarily work in Australia.

My drive to work is an hour. If I was to catch public transport it would take 2.5 hours. If I was to ride a bike to work I’d be on a bike for the 16 hours a day that I’m not at work.

No, not everyone loses all of their money during a recession. The end result of a much needed recession would be prices across the board being much more affordable again. It wouldn’t be painless, but without a recession there’s literally no end in sight to the pain. The poorest will keep getting worse and worse off, but so will the people above them, and above them. The only ones who don’t notice are the 1%. Even those on 200k are hurting with prices where they are now. $100k 5 years ago was a great wage. Now it’s pretty much the bare minimum to not be living in poverty.
