Everything goes poorly, always. Not shifting for the left means horrible things done poorly. Shifting to the left means at least good things done poorly, that’s not a meaningless difference.
Just be realistic with the goals of your movement and you won’t disappoint anyone - see Mamdani.

As tmyakal said echoed, and I said originally, the better comparison is suboxone/methadone, its about weaning off the harmful food into healthier ones with medical help.
I wasn’t trying to snark, and I understood the point, I was primarily trying to point out how harmful it is to ‘stop cold turkey’ with drugs, and how the relationship with addiction is still similar.
You can wean off of Xanax onto Valium and then reduce dose/dosing frequency until cessation.
You can wean off Heroin onto suboxone/methadone in the same way.
You can wean down from 20mg nicotine to 12, 6 and 3, before switching consumption methods and then finally quitting.
In the same way you can wean down from mcdonalds and taco bell, to home made meals with controlled portions, you can try foods that have high volume. You can stop drinking your calories and consuming sugar. Over time those meals that make you fat will become disgusting and your habit and addiction will falter.
Obviously you can’t stop eating completely, and just like alcohol addiction the triggers are ever present in society. But the idea that you can’t approach it in the same way is faulty.

Except you are ignoring the concept of tapering.
If you cold turkey alcohol or benzos you will have seizures and do permanent damage to your body. You’re supposed to be weaned off.
In a similar way, you can wean yourself off of excess calories by reducing portion size.
Obviously the end result isn’t a complete stop but it could be a complete cessation of certain foods. Just like how heroin addicts are given suboxone/methadone for their cravings.
Lemmy.world users being delusional as usual
Aye fair
I’d agree to disagree about the camera though, while my S7 took great photos at the time, my Pixel 7 takes much much better photos, I wouldn’t want to switch back, the S7 wouldn’t keep up today.
Same with, and especially with video, after taking videos on my sisters iPhone on a recent Canada trip, the difference is unmistakable, almost enough to consider a purchase (although I bought a DJI Pocket 3 instead for videos now)…
I find if you’re looking to capture the moment well, ‘good enough from ten years ago’ doesn’t cut it. If you only need your camera for scanning qr codes then that’s one thing, but if you want great pictures or videos of a holiday or event the camera upgrades really make a difference. Not year on year mind you, but between upgrades its significant.
The jam in another useless camera gimmick was annoying but that fad is mostly over now.
Honestly thicker phones with silicon carbide batteries could have tablet levels of capacity, that would be amazing, they seem to use it for unnecessary thinness at the moment though.
I agree with you but just wanted to give you some up to date info:
Agree on all repairability things and your general sentiment, I just felt you had some outdated info 😁

Please do. Fuck big tech

I first used linux with Ubuntu Hardy Heron, I was 8 or 9 years old…
the ‘macs are cool’ to ‘modifying windows to look like mac’ to ‘try linux’ pipeline was real
I did move back to windows with the windows 7 ‘black’ beta I found on kickasstorrents tho.
Ah… 2008 was a much simpler time (on the internet)

Too bad your nation has embassies in every other nation making our resistance easily dismantled.

Oh, a ‘.world’ user pushing nonsense hateful lies…
What a surprise!

Right but is that ‘horse shoe theory’ because it just sounds like there are multiple reasons to support things.
Horse shoe theory is nonsense.
I dislike NATO since its a US protection racket and I dislike EU because they’re forcing chat control and cowtowing to the US.
I dont want the ‘west to fall’, I want to be free and sovereign from the US’ war machine.
I don’t believe we’ll naturally rise above if things collapse, but I do believe we’ll be dead before too long if the US continues forward with its acts.
Being pincered by Russia on the east and the US on the west is a pretty terrifying concept - if only China would save us.

Okay buddy. You’re also in the same pot, there is no escape.
I would love to have a real rational discussion with you, but you’re incapable of challenging your own preconcieved notions.
I am fully aware of the fire, we’re all locked in to the pot, you’re deciding to sink in and be steadily cooked by the water rather than try to catch a raft and escape.
That’s fine, believe you’re safer for it if you want, what do you think the correct course of action is?
Continue with liberal norms and believe you’re doing ‘good’ because you avoid AI?
The pot has been boiling on a higher and higher flame for years, and will continue to boil - LLM cultism just shirks responsibility and accountability, which already doesn’t come to fruition anyway.
I hate AI cultists and Peter Thiel more than I could ever hate you. I wonder if I hate them more than you do.

You are foolish, myopic and stuck on the wrong point about AI in the first place.
The problem with LLM bs is not that it’s not as proficient as a human, that can be remedied with time.
The problem is that it’s essentially evil demon tech being used to fuck us all over
You can hate me for using the demon tech, but do explain the logical reasoning behind your answer? It can be emotional reasoning though, no worries.
To me it is purely like the best search engine you could ever encounter (perplexity specifically) and the pro version is a benefit for my banking choice so I slowly got sucked in to using a paid version for “free”…
I would have been a luddite back in the day because I know exactly what it really means, and I stand with all workers.
I am not a crazy AI nut, I’d rather crack one. I specialised in AI at uni until 2021 and then my moral OCD kept me from even touching AI since. Until I started using it purely as a replacement for a google search, unless I knew what I was looking for already and forgot identifying info.
Would you rather spend hours searching about Linux issues and trying to decipher which package manager for which OS uses which commands has which packages to translate an applicable form of help to your installed system…
Or would you rather type a question explaining what you want as you would to a human?
~~I used to be googlese but then they destroyed it, I’m a qwant user now because I champion european tech and eventual real sovereignty from the united states of america. ~~
I know which exhausts me far less and allows me to focus on actual implementation and best practices using the limited time available to me on this earth but you do you.

I’m sorry but this is simply incorrect.
What you are saying is true of pure vibe coding, but you get an insane net gain from using LLMs for sanity checks and as a general ‘bootstrap’ for a project.
Yes it will make mistakes, but if you can actually program well so as to understand when it is incorrect, it is incredibly helpful as a tool.

Assets are more valuable than money is now, consider what can maintain fundamental value regardless of the economy

I agree except for the fact that it’s unavoidable
It’s horrific, but its inescapable, the problem is not going away and while you’re refusing to use LLMs to accelerate your progress, the opposition isn’t
Don’t get me wrong, anyone who blindly believes sycophantic LLM garbage is a fool.
Its taken 4 years to overcome my llm moral ocd - and its only because I need to start working, in a world where every company forces AI down your throat, there are many who simply have no choice if they want to compete
Also I’m kinda glad I can spend more of my useful energy working towards my goals rather than battling the exact minutiae without any sort of guide

They need to be forced by EU or other to allow open-source drivers and such because they currently are rejecting complete open-source developments due to nonsense about ‘revealing inner workings’ or some other bs.
When they are standard to the degree they are, they need to be forced to play nice.

What type of regulations are we talking, or at least which country’s?
Right, but Capitalism incentivises this behaviour, thus making the checks and balances required both more robust and needing to be applied for regularly - while the powerful are capable of preventing this.
On the other hand, Socialism has incentives that are completely different - managing the abusers would be a much simpler task.
