  • Datacenters are not just for AI.

This is potentially worse than you’d immediately think. Literally everything that exists in “the cloud” is in a datacenter and is not exclusively AI. Remember when AWS went down and half the internet went down with it? Now imagine the datacenters actually got destroyed and it wasn’t just a software bug. Imagine if the datacenters went down for your bank account or healthcare provider. Sure this is only happening in the Middle East at the moment, but as we’ve been learning more and more these days, if it can happen “over there” it can happen here too. Wherever “here” may be, this can affect you.

    ETA: Added some words.

  • The purpose of this is that right wing news media will only report what Trump said while never mentioning the rebuttal. Now they’ll do whatever they want and when they get push back they’ll say “yeah but you said we could” and all of his fans will back him up. And since Trump purged most of the senior military that opposed him the military will most likely back him up too. So now if there’s an international incident involving the illegal use of US military bases in Spain they can say it was Spain that broke the agreement.

Facts don’t matter for these people. They only care about what their dear leader says while everything else is noise or ignored entirely. Essentially, this message isn’t for us or Spain, it was for MAGA.

  • The entire US government is corrupt at this point. Both sides back down as soon as their money is threatened and republicans cower in fear every time they second guess their glorious leader. But to answer your question, the Supreme Court of the United States decided Trump can do whatever he wants and they will only fight him when they need to pretend they are impartial. They gave Trump the power over tariffs about a month before his “liberation day.”

At the end of the day it really comes down to the fact that nobody in the entire government of the US has the balls to tell the big baby in charge “no.” And even when they do they only do it to win political points so they look good for the next election.

  • What’s crazy is that they aren’t just doing this because they make more money with AI. They’re doing this because these AI companies have basically pre-ordered a fuck ton of components that have not been manufactured yet to be put into computers that haven’t even been made yet for datacenters that are not even built yet all on an electrical grid that hasn’t caught up. As long as the manufacturers get paid they don’t really give a shit, but this is so unsustainable it would be hilarious if it weren’t so catastrophic for the rest of us. And as long as the line goes up as they all circle jerk their money around they’ll all be happy and can pretend the economy is good.

  • Google: 😉

Seriously, if you trust any corporation at this point you are an idiot. Besides, they change their Terms of Service multiple times a year and can opt you into whatever the hell they want at any time. They’ll just send an email that says “we’ve updated on terms of service” and you’ve already agreed to it unless you read through it and go through their convoluted methods for opting out. I remember when every company started doing forced arbitration and the only way to opt out was to send certified physical mail and if you failed to do so by a certain date you automatically agree to the new terms.
