  • yeah i also bailed after season 1. The first episode set up an interesting setting and mystery, but every episode after was a slog that missed the forest for the trees. So much focus on minutia, and very little tie in to the meta mystery. Maybe the plots eventually dovetail, but there was no sign of it along the way.

There was also no mention of basic engineering principals like preventative maintenance, redundant/backup systems, or even elevators, despite clearly advanced engineering chops to build such a massive self contained living space. Supposedly some of this is mentioned in the book but that’s not an excuse for lazy TV writing.

  • it’s really sad how Jones’s legacy has been erased so effectively.

give me a fucking break dude. His legacy was only “conspiracy nutter” and he has no one to blame but himself for the notoriety he now has. When your entire brand is conspiracy nutter your only job is to rile up your listeners and totally ignore all nuance.

And he was correct that atrozines dumped into the water supply were causing tadpoles maturing in that water to develop hermaphroditic characteristics, which made them infertile (the source of the “turning the freaking frogs gay” quote).

Firstly atrazine isn’t “dumped” into the water supply. It’s an herbicide used in farming that can get into groundwater via runoff.

Secondly, those results have not been robustly reproduced. As of 2016 only 8 of 24 non-industry-funded studies found statistically significant harmful effects in the wild, and could not isolate effects to atrazine from any other enviromnetal stressors.
