My paternal family is from El Guettar, I’m in hahaha
I really hate how average western liberals think they know better than people actually living in other countries …they hate when foreigners run their own countries.
Facts. The racist, colonial mindset and paternalism never left them, just as their old colonial viceroys and officers intended. Colonialism, and neocolonialism today, aren’t only an economic aspect but honestly are also fucking psychological plagues that have poisoned people’s minds. Not only is it used in the West to keep justifying neocolonialism and manufacturing consent for imperialism / regime change ops on an incredibly fucking chauvinistic basis (one that’s so subtle that they don’t even notice it), and inspires class collaborationist white supremacy, but it also exists here in the Global South in a form that’s just as ugly but from a different perspective. One that’s often ignored and never spoken about.
The postcolonial “subject” mentality here (Global South) is a disgusting inferiority complex full of despair, and many of my countrymen, just as an example, suffer from it. They believe that we are worthless, “uncivilized”, hopeless, inferior, and incapable of governing ourselves - and that we “need” the “civilized” white Western countries as “partners” to “help us”. Yes, the same ones which plundered our countries in the first place and continue to impose neocolonial, unequal exchange dictates onto us to this day through institutions like the IMF, and install comprador bourgeois regimes in our countries that are foreign agents, in order to keep our countries dependent on foreign (particularly Western) capital. Idk if you’re familiar with Frantz Fanon’s works, but this is exactly the phenomenon he describes. Where a colonized or formerly colonized people internalizes the logic of the colonizer, and internalize their racism and turn it against their own people instead of using their energy for revolution, anti-imperialism and sovereignty.
You could call it “reverse” white supremacy, and it’s how the West and our comprador bourgeois ruling classes keep us manipulated and in line, because they know that revolutionary consciousness would shatter this colonial inferiority complex and make the masses realize that they don’t have to live, think, prospect, and govern on imperialist terms. One of these comprador regimes is exactly what they’re aiming to install in Venezuela right now with Machado.
Feel you. Average Westerners are the most indoctrinated people on the planet and incapable of critical thinking for a reason, like parrots for the US state department. Most of them have liberal ideology (which can turn to fascism unless they’re educated) planted in their minds the moment they become able to absorb information beyond basic verbal protocols really, and it’s all subconscious. They’re not taught to question, they’re not taught nuance, they’re not taught analysis, instead they’re taught dogma and adherence to the religion of market capitalism and neoliberalism. The objectively and scientifically superior alternative, socialism and its aim, communism, is smeared by their bourgeois propaganda education and media from which they absorb their entire worldview. They’re not judging nor assessing a single thing on their own, they’re regurgitating lies planted in their minds by media owned by a small handful of oligarchs who are all war profiteers and would rather die than see a threat to capitalism, and these people are unknowingly having this exact view forced upon them. And it isn’t just media and education that shapes and maintains their liberal ideology, it’s practically being reproduced pathologically in Western society because it has simply become the “default” despite being diametrically opposed to the interests of the working class.
It’s what Louis Althusser calls “Ideological State Apparatus”, which under capitalism includes practially every major institution that you can think of. Basically by simply living in Western liberal society you’re eating out of the trash can of ideology without even knowing it, and it becomes part of their core identity - hence these people, when their internalized bullshit and ideological defense mechanisms their ruling class taught them are debunked, they shut down with cognitive dissonance. Capitalism today also uses mass consumer culture and comfort media to lull people as well which has a reproductive effect.
All these insufferable liberals get on my nerves too, and they might still remain a majority in the West for a long time and rather see the world in flames before waking up and finding out that every single thing they ever believed about their countries, governments, and societies were nothing but lies. But then again it’s important to remember that there are people in the imperial core who ARE gaining class consciousness (even if bite-sized), who ARE aware that something is wrong (even if they don’t attribute it to capitalism yet), who ARE aware that they were lied to about e.g. China with the clear evidence now, who ARE disillusioned with their facade of a “democracy”, who even are beginning to pick up the works of Marx, etc. Think of all the activists on the Sumud flotilla, of all the Palestine protests, of the increasing amount of Americans who despise their government and imperialist foreign policy - and them even moreso than Europeans, those being even more hopeless despite also living lives in red tape bureaucracy and surveillance. The US is the heart of the beast, and its working class, were it class conscious and formed a vanguard, would alone be able to tip the global scale and bring imperialism and neoliberalism to their graves could they carry out a revolution. That’s exactly why the US ruling class uses propaganda and indoctrination as a literal LIFELINE, producing all these liberals who all think the same like an assembly line.
They fear nothing more than an organized domestic working class - more than they fear China, Iran, Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela. Outside of all these shitty cesspit platforms that are for example X, Reddit… there are people educating themselves and people out in the streets right now, people seeing their material conditions worsen as all their country’s wealth, surplus value that THEY produce, is being siphoned off to oligarchs and imperialist wars, and youths working 3 jobs and barely surviving. Those people are the West’s future, not all these docile shitlibs - the multipolar world and revolutionary future will pass them by as if they never existed. It will remember them as docile and gullible fools.
Absolutely. All the time wasted on this stupid internet comfort media bullshit gossip could be spent on educating ourselves, reading theory, organizing, engaging analytically with fellow leftists (as we generally do here)… hell, just investing in ourselves and our mental health and hobbies + well-being.
That’s putting a lot of faith in socdems and reformists lol
This is laughable even by the logic of bourgeois economics. The profits enjoyed by said restaurants would just be diverted towards supermarkets selling produce that become ingredients in their lunch - much of which shares the same supply chains said restaurants use. I guess this is a “both sides-ism” but for capitalists themselves lol
I don’t watch that guy and I don’t know that much about him, but this makes me so happy that I don’t follow this entire internet drama scene lol. We don’t need the opinions nor thoughts of all these liberals and other reactionaries nor their genocide apologia, they exist solely on the internet at this point or in Western family dinners. Ignorant parasites who know nothing about the world as they sit in the comfort of their Western suburban homes. They wouldn’t know what genuine injustice meant if it sat on their faces.
Based. Shame that Amerikkkan schools would throw whoever wrote this in a juvenile detention centre.
Facts, comrade. If we divert off-topic a little further and focus on anthropology, honestly, this comparison can be drawn in general between “superior whites” (Celto-Germanics) and the “non-whites” (including European Mediterraneans, at least historically). The ethno-nationalists claim to be so “superior” yet prefer the food of the “inferiors”, appropriate the cultural traditions and teachings of the “inferiors”, and even try to steal the history of the “inferiors”, by claiming it as their own or by attempting to sever the continuity between ancient civilizations they find fascinating and the modern populations, which are their descendants, to paint those as “inferiors”. This is a veeeery common trick in the playbook of aforementioned Anglo intellectuals, and the Fr*nch too.
This is partially how the entire myth of “Western civilization” emerged, which is little more than a Eurocentric term for what became the political imperialist bloc we know today, rooted in the same narratives that gave us “civilizing mission”, “savages” and other nonsense - which are today recycled into the neocon language’s “spreading democracy”, “terrorists”, etc.
If we go further back in history, there’s also the “Doctrine of Discovery” - the Catholic church would respond and grant a Catholic colonizer “rights” to colonize an area and eradicate indigenous populations, by issuing the Inter Caetera decree.
Economic disparity in Italy following industrialization, between North and South, which continues to this day, undoubtedly could be a factor. Italy is also a very extroverted culture with a collectivist, outgoing tradition that even today opposes social atomization that capitalism creates (think of movements like Cittaslow and Slowfood), but this can be said about so many other cultures in just the Mediterranean basin alone - Italy has just been part of the imperial core, meaning higher literacy rates and thus “capacity” to produce such prominent Marxist thinkers. Italy also saw fascism, which perhaps could have made class consciousness amongst intellectuals skyrocket?
And confirmation bias? Maybe, but it’s a fun thought experiment regardless because we as Marxists are materialists in the first place, so we know that this isn’t just an “inherent genetic trait”, or “random”, as liberal idealism would propose.
Britain [although in the latter’s case, their intellectuals are so endlessly insufferable im genuinely considering calling for a ban on all publications from the god forsaken island]
not just their intellectuals are insufferable lmao, that’s too generous when speaking of that “civilization”
Mutual dialogue! Two-state solution! Every opinion matters and is equal! Social Darwinism is a valid philosophy! We all need to work together as a nation! Freedom, democracy, civil society and human rights! We’re helping all these poor people around the world! Unemployed people are just lazy and don’t want to work and contribute to society! Capitalism offers wages as a rewards system, how motivating! We’re spoiled rotten! Poverty is a personal responsibility that the individual must take action to combat!
And it appears that some people act like this foolish ultra is redeemed because he points out the obvious.
This all boils down to one thing, and that’s the phenomenon of controlled “opposition”.
“…reformism, even when quite sincere, in practice becomes a weapon by means of which the bourgeoisie corrupt and weaken the workers. The experience of all countries shows that the workers who put their trust in the reformists are always fooled.”
-Lenin, Marxism and Reformism.
They never tell you who this “freedom” is intended for. They just isolate the word and dilute it of its meaning.
It proves there’s a difference between a war and a genocide, with said genocide being complementary to settler colonialism too.
The US working class has been subjected to opium addiction. The US ruling class is subjecting itself to copium addiction.
It might have more to do with slavery and enforced conscription, which played a significant part in the Mongol empire, than “willingness” lol
It’s difficult to say right now exactly what will happen, but all that’s for certain is that the Ukrainian state as we know it has no future. Drowning in debt, depopulation, and mass privatization - the entire country being sold off to the highest bidder already, piece by piece. It’s a tool for war profiteering of NATO and the broader US empire, to be discarded when it can no longer be used, and initially intended to be a tool to destabilize an adversary of Washington and Brussels, Russia, through the Maidan coup in 2014 which has failed miserably - as did a similar “escapade” proving Western incompetence in Afghanistan. A cog in the forever war machine that might serve as one of their final bastions of hope for the rotting corpse that is Western unipolarity.
Ukraine and its NATO puppet masters are facing precarity and desperation more than ever before if we speak of so-called “victory” (tbh a term that becomes vague if the entire dialectic of prolonged profiteering isn’t omitted. “Winning” for the bourgeoisie can just as well mean profit maximization, obviously, which they’re achieving), with Ukraine now resorting to kidnappings of random civilians on the streets for enforced draft. Russia has practically achieved most of its primary goals, and has de facto annexed and liberated eastern regions which are undergoing rapid urban renewal and restoration of vital infrastructure by Russia, gradually leading to better living standards than they ever saw under the decay and stagnation offered by Ukraine. This, combined with an end to linguistic repression (most of them are Russian native speakers), will undoubtedly be a PR boost for Moscow from the inhabitants too. Though an end to the entire proxy war is not something Russia nor Zelensky’s Neo-Nazi comprador regime in Kiev can at all achieve on their own - it all rests on the core beneficiaries who orchestrated this entire ordeal to begin with: Washington and Brussels. Comprador Zelensky acts on their behalf, as we all know. With recent developments, such as the seizure of Russian assets for redistribution towards the Ukrainian war machine by Europe, and the new wave of Russophobic fearmongering campaigns in Europe intended to manufacture consent for continued war (surrounding all the drone nonsense in particular), the writing is already on the wall. “Until the last Ukrainian” isn’t an outdated phrase to use.
Putting the US aside here, its European vassals, to me at least, seem really interested in prolonging this conflict - moreso than their masters in Washington. What comes to mind is Europe’s own military industrial complex which has become an even bigger topic of debate after Trump was elected (noo big daddy America don’t you remember the Marshall Plan?!), and this is just a personal take but I guess Ukraine can serve as a testing ground for Europe’s militarization project - it’ll drive massive profits, serve to manufacture consent for further welfare austerity against the still highly liberal European working class, and allow Europe to develop repressive tools and intelligence which it could hypothetically turn inwards once the contradictions of capitalism in the EU become so dire that its ruling class needs to resort to fascism to prevent mass left-wing working class uprisings as the multipolar world order rises year after year, burying Western hegemony and hacking away at their beloved imperialist superprofits.
The best answer I can provide is that this ugly proxy war will continue for at least a few more years, until NATO will be forced into admitting defeat and signing a peace treaty with Russia (“forced” how exactly? Time will tell). De jure Russian annexation of the eastern territories will certainly happen, and what will be left of Ukraine is a debt-riddled rump statelet under short-term NATO occupation, reduced in size possibly even only to the Ukrainian speaking regions of the west(?) surviving on EU grants with a Zelensky-like figurehead in power if not a pseudo-neutral comprador figure, as we have to consider that Russia would only accept a neutral state, rightfully so. Azov and its ilk might see a fate similar to other extremist proxies that were once useful to the US empire, such as al-Qaeda, Taliban and ISIS. They might even seize the rump state within no time, or be dealt with by Russia. But this is all only the tip of the ice berg, there’s no knowing what further developments could take place.
The regional comprador agents have been shaking hands firmly with their friends in the Zionist entity and Washington today. This “prisoner exchange” and these colonial peace talks are a distraction that aim achieve nothing but to prolong a status quo until it’s no longer convenient. The real prisoners were always the Palestinians. To consider both sides “prisoners” on equal terms is a joke. We must never let this slide and always keep our eyes on occupied Palestine. Never stop talking about it, never stop protesting. Palestine forever.
