There’s something deeply funny about writing that comment while your username is still followed by an emoji of a baby.
I really hope you did it on purpose.

Laser eye surgery and sterilisation.
I still use sunglasses and condoms for protection, but can gladly go without on overcast days and in steady relationships, and I panic way less if they break when I need them the most.
I like that it’s not much in use here.
I have to think more carefully about what words I type and how to convey my emotions in text. It’s good to practice written communication, and it’s good to be comfortable with it for when you want to be taken more seriously.
And I kinda assume those who splatter their text with emojis are bots or LLMs programmed to sound more human, or people trying to imply or invoke emotions to sell me on some nonsense or other, so I don’t read those comments or posts anyway.
It’s fun that Lemmy has its own culture which comes as a little shock but is easy to adapt to once you figure it out, isn’t it?

Thanks, that sounds good enough. I don’t mind some flat side characters if the rest makes up for it.

Thanks for being upfront lol. But I must say, after having read a 6(?)-book series, you’re at least bordering on “avid reader” by now…!
Incoming: hords of casuals complaining that Tails could’ve just flown the ring to Mount Doom.

Caring about how old people are or look is a young person’s game.
When you go “What? Of course I know today is Tuesday… Oh yeah you’re right, it is my birthday. Nah, just an early night for me.”, no one will think you’re a high schooler.
But style choices, posture, glasses and other accessories can make a difference as well.
Or just take thinning shears to your temples and crown, and go for a balding look.

Of course, for those that are alcoholics or otherwise get addicted to the alcoholic effects, it can be a struggle, but not really probably relating to when you start drinking in such cases.
There’s actually a well known, clear link between drinking debut age (first drink) and rates of alcoholism, as well as other adverse effects (something about employment I think, and drug use for sure).
If I recall correctly the age of debut is statistically even more impactful than the age one starts drinking regularly, when it comes to rates of alcohol dependency.
A lot of other things factor in as well, and a lot of things factor in to push an early debut of course… but drinking debut age is definitely a factor in alcoholism.
People put their fingers in all kinds of places - door handles, shoelaces, buttcracks, nostrils… and we greet strangers by touching their hands.
Not too far removed from butt sniffing, really.

That’s exactly how I’ve had John Wick described to me… hah. It’s not at the top of my to-watch-list, but it’s not disqualified either.
Alright, so long as there’s some emotional torment and not just dick jokes - I’m in!

Are the characters good? I think what tripped me up most is from what I heard they seemed one-dimentional. Like do they have complexity and personality, or are they mostly one-note or trope-y? (Which can admittedly still be fun in the right setting)
Because I like the premise. Kind of like a mix of tabletop RPG + dungeon crawler/procedurally generated games + hitchhikers guide to the galaxy?
"Edited To Add: ", to clarify what has been added to the post after people started responding. Editing without making the distinction can be seen as trying to make people’s responses look silly or unnecessary.
…or “Estimated Time of Arrival”, depending on context.

Humans lick each others buttholes.

I have a friend who’s very much into DCC, but all he laughs about is a talking cat and a robot who’s very clearly into feet. I was bored of it already the third time he brought up a reference to the feet-thing, so I don’t really feel like reading a whole series with that type of running gag.
I never heard a word about the dark humour in it… Then again maybe he tries not to spoil anything and that’s why it seems kinda weak?
I’ll probably go for it if it ever becomes like an animated series or something.

The city info is there in the 613 block, so Google just ignores it.

Interesting. Where I want to go for a first date is not the same as where I want to go just to refuel. In my mind they need to facilitate different things. Are they the same to you?
its where I assume she wants to go. This is pretty much my experience of most things in relationships. I try my best to please her and am left completely unsatisfied myself.
Sounds like that’s a suffering of your own making, to be frank. You’re ignoring the “take” part of give-and-take.
I too tend to neglect myself and my needs in relationships, which is why I swore off them until I had learnt to balance my priorities so I wouldn’t forget myself.
But I also fully knew that neglecting myself was something I did, not my partners. If I enthusiastically choose what they want to do and always to predict what my partner wants, instead of expressing my own wants and finding a compromise or taking turns, then they never get the opportunity to do things for me or compromise - because they think we’re both getting what we want already.
If you are expressing your wants and still never get catered to, then it’s probably not a good relationship. But if you’re not expressing yourself you are setting your partner (and the relationship) up for failure.
I absolutely think you should make a suggestion that takes your own personality into account for a first date. Of course we dont need to dump all of our worst traits at once, but you’re not there pretending to be the perfect fit like you’re auditioning for the role of partner, you’re both there to figure out if you mesh well together.
Plus, hot dogs by a camp fire was one of the best dates I’ve been on (wouldn’t recommend deep woods or other very remote locations for a first date with a stranger though). I wouldn’t want to date someone who didn’t like camp fires!

I dunno… Glee established itself from episode 1 to be about terrible people doing and saying terrible things. I think they hold true to that premise even moreso today.
Big Bang Theory on the other hand kept pretending their protagonist was a good person just doing “geeky” things. That aged poorly for sure.

Maybe not for dinner, but I think a cat café is a good choice for getting to know someone. You get to see how well they follow the rules, how they handle the animals, potentially how they deal with the rejection of sitting there without getting to interact with a cat etc. You can get some idea of how respectful and thoughtful someone is in a place like that. Plus you get to support local shelter and potentially hang out with cats! Though on the downside it can be distracting from conversation as well.
For dinner probably a local joint. They have edible vegan burgers and pool tables and karaoke booths, but can get quite loud depending on when you’re there. There’s a local restaurant with great atmosphere and lots of hidden art to discover, but it’s pricey and high-brow enough that I probably wouldn’t suggest it as a first date. I prefer to show my trashy roots first and weed out any snobs.
Stopped drinking almost entirely, because moving also meant finding new friends (who prefer other activities than drinking).
