I worked for a Fortune 100 company that hired lots of H-1B workers. The company loved them not only because they settled for less money, but because they worked ridiculous hours and could not easily change jobs. Those H-1B workers created big problems for American employees.
H-1B employees did not have family in the US, did not have a social life, and routinely worked 100 hours a week. Most American employees had wives, children, relatives and outside activities, and could not and would not work those kinds of hours. 60-70 hours a week was typical.
When H-1B employees work 30%-40% 43%-67% more hours their work production will almost always exceed that of their American counterparts, and that’s exactly what happened.
When peer-ranking and reviews were done the H1-B employees exceeded the raw metrics of their American counterparts and ranked higher. It was common for Americans to be forced out because they refused to work 100 hours a week and management did not give a damn about their quality of life.
There may be situations where companies use the H1-B program because they cannot find employees with the right skill sets, but I saw none of those. Instead the program was used to source people one step up from indentured servants.

They’d rather change their operations than lobby for the poorest to have enough money to not have to steal.

Is your entire life purpose whinging about Yanks?

Right. My “agenda” is simple. I would prefer an EV, but when in the middle of bumfuck Nevada with no cell service when it’s 110F out, I don’t want a car that can only be fixed at a dealer and that may require a 3 week wait for parts.

Lol - not shocked at all. I fully expected the EV fanboys to shit themselves.

Case in point: https://www.reddit.com/r/electricvehicles/comments/1lfssfn/hyundais_iccu_problem_heres_what_we_know/
The GM’s EV reliability is terrible. BMW, Lexus and Tesla are much better, but not looking for a luxury vehicle or a Tesla.

You don’t do road trips much? Trips don’t necessarily go to the same location twice and it can take days of driving to circle back.

That’s exactly what we’re looking at.

I figure I’d upset some EV fanboys with a dose of reality, but holy shit, you’re REALLY upset. Take your meds already.

Often enough and the trips can be for a few weeks. Checked car rental rates recently and a small SUV had a nearly $2K base rate.

Yet EVs are much less reliable than many ICE vehicles. The control module is one of the weak points. When it fails the car is down until it’s replaced.

We have been wanting an EV (something other than a Swasticar) for our next vehicle and think we could deal with the extended charging times required during a long drive or trip, but we ended up ruling it out.
For us the big problem is the difficulty getting parts and service. Service for the models we looked at is only available at dealers (and only some dealers), and parts are regularly not in dealer stock.
We really don’t want to risk taking a cross-county trip and having the car break down 200 miles from the nearest mechanic. With the additional real possibility of having to wait weeks (or months) for a part, an EV is not an appealing choice for us, at least not yet.

42 years of statistics were analyzed in the linked study. Perhaps the chart’s creators were trying to alarm drivers and parents to make them more careful, but they could have done so without wildly overstating the danger.

A textbook example of how to lie with statistics.
In the entire US there are around 10 child pedestrian deaths on an average night. On Halloween there are only around 14 deaths despite thousands more children on the street. This means the actual risk per child is exponentially lower on Halloween night.
So the reality is the opposite of what’s being claimed. Halloween is perhaps the least dangerous day of the year for child pedestrians.

I didn’t come here to sign a contract. I’d rather take my chances in Canada, though I think living there is risky too.
You’d have to watch Canadian society treat people you hate with respect. The horror.

How is sending a picture of a check to the person it’s made payable to bank fraud? You have no idea what’s he needs it for, right, right??!!
I understand your hesitation considering your history with him, but if anyone would be committing fraud it would be your father. Even so, IMO there is no bank that would press charges if he deposits an image of a check that is payable to him, especially for $600.
