It used to be nice to pass the back of my arm over screens, and feel the little hairs in my skin react. Do it slowly and with a blindfold on and it can be pretty intense :-)
I wonder if you could find bright shapes on a black bacground. But Braille haptic devices and speech synthesizers did exist back then so that’s not a practical visually-impaired aid.
lol … the effect only worked well on fine hairs, and getting other body parts close to the screen would be logistically tricky. So, funnily enough, I did only ever did it on my arms
I have a small number of fine hairs on the back of my fingers’ first section. That’s the sharpest and most sensitive body part that fulfils the criteria and I think I could “scan” the screen with it. I also remember feeling something with the tips of my fingers, maybe ionic wind or capacitive current flow at 60 Hz (refresh rate).
Wild that most households just used to have a 25kV particle (electron) accelerator but maybe an array of 3x800x600 transistors (TFTs) wired by transparent coating on glass is wilder.

No, it was far too vague for that … but not an angle I’d ever thought about!
You didn’t only use the back of your arm, did you?

Yeah. Good times :-)
