    The is awesome in one way, but terrible in others. Anthropic and OpenAI can afford this (bullshit!) but their latest open source competitors cannot. In a way, it may be helping lock in monopolies if open source can’t cut them down a bit first. It should go a step further by limiting companies from dominating the industry in nations they aren’t even based in. Currently, it’s accepting that data centres owned by big companies/corporations is how the AI industry is and will be.

    Sure it’s not what they wanted, but sweeping in and locking down the industry in Australia will be great for their shaky plans for IPO.

    I’m no lawmaker or expert, but I see this as important as anything else the Australian government thinks it’s thought of.
