How could they when its always cut taxes?
Is voting conservative essentially a fuck-you-to-civi-society vote? Basically slytherin

The position of conservative governments for the last 40 years or so has been that it’s not government’s job to do… anything. That government in all its forms is bad and to prove this they actively attempt to make it not work. That’s the whole point of the conservative movement. Why would they improve anything. It is their deeply held belief that corporations and CEOs are the only solution to any problem, and if CEOs aren’t fixing it, then it’s not worth fixing, and probably isn’t even really a problem. Laws are just a poor substitute for corporate policy, investors are the natural modern aristocracy because money is the only virtue, so if you have it, everything you do should be considered good. If you disagree with any decision they make, then you are evil. They’ll use whatever the code word of the day is (Communist, Socialist, Woke, Liberal, Leftist, Godless heathen), but it doesn’t matter what the actual definition of those words are, what they mean is “Evil” and it’s defined as anything that looks like dissent from the corporate aristocracy.
That’s them being inconsistent in their views. Corporations are a legal construction. If they were consistent they think, as I do, that corporations shouldn’t exist.
nailed it honestly. the “corporations are the only legit authority” thing explains literally every conservative policy position if you squint. laws = annoying suggestion, CEO decision = gospel. and yeah the code word rotation is real, swap in whatever scares the base that week, meaning stays the same: “person who wants public goods to exist.” good breakdown
Behind it is the belief that everyone gets what they deserve, so if you’re wealthy it’s because you’re more deserving of wealth, and if you’re poor, unemployed and hungry it’s because you deserve poverty and hunger. American right-wingers will seldom admit that you can be unemployed or poor through no fault of your own. They don’t seem to allow themselves the concept of a systematic injustice, or even of economic forces causing people to become unemployed. Deep down perhaps they know it happens, but you won’t often catch them admitting it out loud.
This belief that the world rewards people according to their merits and deserts ties in nicely with evangelical Christianity, and the idea that God administers this global rewards system. Why help the poor if God put them there because they deserve to suffer? Might as well buy yourself some luxuries and enjoy your God-given wealth.
It’s not really a philosophy, of course. It’s basic selfishness and greed dressed up as a political philosophy. As a philosophy it obviously doesn’t hold up for five minutes: you can only fail to see the injustice in the world if your eyes are very firmly and resolutely shut. And you can’t believe in investing in the stock market unless you believe there’s an economy with booms and busts and people winding up unemployed due to forces beyond their control. But they won’t admit it.
Their behaviour proves that they don’t really hold principled beliefs, but are just improvising to make peace with their own selfishness. As soon as they themselves fall on hard times, their professed beliefs no longer apply and it’s everyone’s fault but theirs. As soon as they get a sniff of power, their professed love of guns to fight tyranny turns into an eagerness to use guns to impose tyranny. They live by no principle except craven selfishness.
Absolute nonsense. It was a conservative government that dealt with the massive debt left by the liberal governments under the first Trudeau the negotiated the original free trade deal that saved our asses at the time. It was a conservative government that moved from the hidden taxes to the GST which made things considerably better as well. It was a conservative government that wrote the banking act that saved us during the great recession while the American banking system collapsed.
And it was a later CPC government that pulled a bunch of extremely unique and Innovative tricks to get us through the great recession largely unscathed compared to other countries. Tricks that Trudeau would later use but had never been used before.
The current conservative party is making dozens of extremely good suggestions that would radically change how things are: And Carney based his entire campaign off of other conservative suggestions
It would be more accurate to say that conservatives are the only party that proposes solutions. The liberal steal some of them and then fail to execute
False:
Since at least the Diefenbaker administration liberal governments have closed deficits until Trudeau Jr., while they’ve only gotten worse under conservative leaders. Harper had the highest deficits in history until Justin said “hold my beer, eh.” Mulroney made sales tax explicit, sure, he also made it so it wasn’t on the sticker price and raised the rate. The CPC barely had to do anything because regulations passed under prior liberal governments kept us from taking on bad risk, but I will grant they had some interesting ideas along with the things that have hamstrung workers ever since. 90% of Trudeau’s worst decisions were just saying “Yes AND…” to CPC policy.
The modern conservative party has no good suggestions, because all the good ideas, have already been stolen by Carney. His policy is basically just getting things back to the Harper baseline, and everything PP has proposed that’s unique, is objectively terrible.
Your historical revisionism, is bad and you should feel bad.
No. You’re wrong. Here’s a chart
As you can see almost all of our peaks are always around the liberals. The liberals almost unanimously add massive amounts to the debt
Worse the liberals usually leave things in such a mess that we have massive inflation that has to have massive increases in interest rates which makes the debt grow even faster and they just leave that for conservatives to deal with
So it would be you who is rewriting history and badly at that
Trudeau racked up debt and massively spiked inflation, mulroney put that down
Chretchen only reduced the deficit and debt by stealing 70 billion dollars from the unemployment insurance fund and left things a mess, harper scared us through the economic crisis
Justin Trudeau borrowed more money than every other prime minister before him and Carney is set to do the same
The only people who have had good ideas in the last 60 years have been conservatives. And Carney ran on conservative ideas now.
Sorry kid, you failed that one hard
Congratulations now let’s think about that for one second if there’s a peak, that means it turned around. If there’s just a slope up and to the right, that means the debt only went up. But thank you for providing the evidence for me. I wish you understood it.
Nope, it doesn’t mean it’s turned around. I can go over the numbers and circumstances leading up to each and every one if you like. I feel like that won’t work out the way you wanted,
The conservatives came up with gst, free trade agreements, and banking changes that saved us during the worldwide recession, they came up with ‘shovel ready’ infrastructure models during the recession which really worked for us, along with the cmhc buy back which was nothing short of brilliant and kept our banks flush with cash to lend, and about a dozen other things. And PP has proposed many ideas that would make a substantial difference right now. Carney steals ideas but can’t implement.
I’m sure it’s upsetting because it doesn’t meet with your narrative but that doesn’t make it less true.
Free trade agreements with whom exactly? China? They didn’t save us from the global recession with GST either, that was the 80s son. The Liberals passed the bank regulations, that the conservatives were all set to repeal right up until the market crashed. I know, I was there.
They did implement infrastructure projects, although they spent more on advertising them than they spent on the projects, but I’ll give you that one.
Free trade agreement with the USA. You know, that thing that dug us out of the hole the LAST trudeau got us into and that is in the newspaper every single day now? Holy crap you’re out of the loop. How have you never heard of the free trade agreement between Canada and the US?
the libs didn’t pass our banking regs. Our major banking reforms, credited with saving us during the recession, was authored and passed by Brian Mulroney in 1987 and 1992 and changed canada entirely. which set us up for prosperity later.
Harper spent over $100 billion in infrastructure. He didn’t spend Even a billion on advertising. You really have no knowledge of any of this it would seem. Maybe you should do some more reading before you talk
During Stephen Harper’s tenure as Prime Minister (2006–2015), the federal government spent an estimated $750 million to $757 million on advertising campaigns., https://www.google.com/search?

I know NAFTA better than you do clearly, since you thought it had something to do with a recession. Your numbers are skewed because you’re counting all the advertising he did for the infrastructure projects as part of the infrastructure spending.
Harper specifically spent more time cozying up to China, and selling them our land and our oil companies than he did on free trade. And now look at the CPC. Most anti-free-trade party in the country.
You may be able to fool the senile and the kids who weren’t there and don’t know better, but your lies don’t fly with me son, I was there.
Oh look it’s this guy! He reads a headline somewhere and the acts like he knows things. But if you actually ask him pointed questions about things to prove his knowledge he breaks down into name calling 😂.
Oh look it’s that guy that hasn’t made an argument and can’t read a graph.
Lol. If you’ve at all read through that guys tantrums framed as discussions and feel like he’s legitimately making worthwhile points then I likely need to block you too!
If I wanted to talk to people who can’t tell the difference between a science paper and their own opinion I would be on Facebook.
Yeah I’m kind of seeing that. Well, maybe he’ll be able to defend his position this time
