The Game Industry Hardship Fund bundle was created to support game developers in North America who have lost their jobs. And in a short period, it has raised more than $100,000.
The proceeds of this bundle will go toward a hardship fund for those experiencing layoffs. Individual out of work or under-employed game developers can apply to this fund and use the money for things they need, like food, healthcare, and rent. (This fund is not for companies.)
The layoffs should not have happened in the first place, or the devs should have received bonuses to cover living expenses until the AI bubble bursts and the economy stabilizes after that. I still bought the bundle though, that does not make Big Tech any less responsible.
Every dev gets less than $0.10* but think how many ads would need to be in a game to make that much per player
* edit: on average. Some have multiple entries and some donated their games without soliciting any proceeds.
It’s not evenly distributed.
