This is exactly why it’s objectively a stupid meme. 69 and 420 are funny because they are subversive. If you saw those numbers you know it was culture because the boomer mainstream wouldn’t be marketing sex and drugs to kids, at least not this directly.
It is subvertive, just against the 420/69 culture. It’s an anti-joke that only works because 69 was already a huge meme. You’re too close to the source material to appreciate that their joke number is at least as good as ours. Plus bonus points because it serves the function of trolling older people in retaliation for all the vague “you’ll understand when you’re older” they probably got each time they asked about why older people thought 420 or 69 was funny.
The kids are alright. I don’t expect them to solve this shit any better than we did, but I expect that there will be some pretty good memes as humanity barrels closer to extinction, collapse, or serfdom (or some combination of those).
“Our counterculture is subversive to subversive counterculture and submits to corporate overlords” isn’t that complicated, but is totally on brand for the iPad generation.
Isn’t it a gen alpha thing? Not sure any of them are out of high school yet, so I’ll forgive them for not recognizing that large parts of what they probably don’t even spend much time thinking about could be considered submitting to corporate overlords by others who are paying more attention and have been around longer.
Is it really that deep? It’s basically just a self-propelling thing from what I understand it’s funny because it’s funny and you say it because you say it and if you’re exposed to enough eventually you will catch the Mind virus, or at least that’s what happened to me
I think it is but doesn’t have to be for everyone. This is just my interpretation of the deep lore behind it but not everyone knows or cares about the deep lore.

Sure, things can be stupid and ignorant at the same time.
