Car companies have spent a lot of money on shaping how the very foundation of the modern world is built. Europe changed for them, and many places changed back when they realized how stupid the idea was. Car companies can only operate at such a scale when they force their way into people’s lives, when they use propaganda and money and subvert democracy and reject the human element. Cars are inherently isolating and, for most people, driving is a competition sport where everyone loses because it’s a massive, planet destroying example of crabs in a bucket where the only winners are the bucket manufacturers. Car-dependency is inherently individualistic, capitalistic, anti-democratic, and self-sabotaging so of course the right-wingers love them.

I’m a track-going BRZ owner who does all repairs themselves and I fucking HATE cars as a mode of transportation. They’re fun as toys, but I leave that shit in my parking spot unless I need it, and aside from the track I could live my entire life just as easily and more cheaply with car share, taxis, U-Haul, and a really nice racing sim setup. If anyone tells you that owning a car means you have to jerk off car infrastructure and manufacturers, you tell them I have a massive “fuck you and the piece of shit you rode in on” for them to shove right up their fucking ass and choke on.

    Car brain <—> Fascism

The link is as old as cars, very obvious, and very well understood. Cars have ALWAYS been a tool of privilege and oppression. Their rise and dominance are the result of violence, imperialism, colonialism, etc. Car dependency is a cheap, quick, disposable means of exploiting people, stealing their resources, and leaving them with nothing but debts, liabilities, destitution, environmental/health/community destruction, etc. Now it’s at the point where the planet is literally doomed…

Only a fucking fascist and/or a complete stooge would support this. It’s not some mystery. It’s clear as day.

Really fascinating side story: The first bicycle was invented in 1817 by an ardent believer in democracy - Karl [von] Drais, inventor of the Laufmaschine / Velocipede, also called Draisine.

(And even more twisted, what was probably one motivation for this was probably the experience of “the year without summer” after the explosion of volcano Tambora in Indonesia, causing climate distortion and starvation for humans and horses.)

Keep inventing and fighting for a better future!

Also, fascists and the fossil fuel industry are worldwide in a deadly symbiosis. The former have a toolbox for manipulation, propaganda and poisoning democracy. The latter have trillions of funds available for manipulation. Both hate democracy, since the fossil industry has zero future in a democratic world.

I call this pattern the oiligarchy.

Don’t be so narrow minded! It could also be racism and a nice dash of ‘i hate the poor people’. The feeling of power when hurting others and getting to watch other struggle while the conservative drives past them in a personal carriage might be compensation enough.

When I talked about it with a repairman in our family they support cycling but they need cars for their job. You can’t move a fridge easily with a bike.
