I’m just curious how the far-right is framing these developments, and how it differs per country.

Are they mostly talking about the “pyromaniacs”?

Or about how governments failed to do organize the (supposedly normal) periodic low intensity fires to prevent the big ones?

Or are they simply not talking about it at all?

If you have any concrete links to local media, I would be very curious!

Ah yes, let’s just give in to the far right conspiracy theory…

~80% of both countries’ land is used for agriculture. Hail was the biggest cause of crop loss for decades, the systems in place are warranted. Also these are not the only countries to have hail prevention systems, almost all European countries have their own different or similar systems. Also these are not in use when there are no storm clouds or no hail is forecasted (we barely had any precipitation at all this year). The only thing that’s fueling speculations like this is pure ignorance…

Never heard of this practice. But it seems to be a thing yes.

Turns out it was Vonnegut again.

The scientific attempts to mitigate or suppress hailfalls began in the 1950s, a few years after Schaefer (1946) and Vonnegut (1947) discovered the means to increase the ice crystal concentration in clouds by using dry ice or silver iodide (AgI) particles, and consequently to interfere with the natural precipitation processes.
