Consumer demand is rising for all things avocado, including oil made from the fruit. Avocado oil is a great source of vitamins, minerals and the type of fats associated with reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. But according to new research from food science experts at the University of California, Davis, the vast majority of avocado oil sold in the U.S. is of poor quality, mislabeled or adulterated with other oils.

i’ve been wary of all industrial fats - sadly any liquid at room temperature fat (olive oil and avacado oil) is just too temping to adulterate with the cheaper industrial fats, so the supply chain does it at scale - so I don’t trust any liquid at room temperature fat anymore.

Can I really be sure my coconut oil and ghee are pure? I was going to buy lard some years ago, but when I read the label, it was half hydrogenated vegetable oil.

My coconut oil at least smells like coconuts.

Yeah, you have to read the labels! the core problem this article exposes that even if you do read the label the supply chain likes to substitute cheaper ingredients when it can.

Yep, so I won’t be buying any kind of commercial lard. I have a grease jar.

Coconut oil you can because of the melting point, which is around 77F/25C. It’s very difficult to mix two different fats and end up with the same melting point. Idk about ghee, but it might be similar?
