Democrats should put progressive issues on the ballot this year. They could put in a $17 minimum wage and a progressive land value tax (that replaces the state property tax) to fund state social programs cut by the Republicans.

What’s left over after funding local social safety nets goes to a basic income program for the poor and middle class. They could also put no voter purges 179 days from the election, make election day a holiday for state employees, and drive-through voting on the ballot.

Democrats could put upzoning on the state ballot to increase the housing supply and drive prices down. The GOP would be running against populist programs and Democratic candidates at the same time.

They should have done it last year, but their wealthy donors told them not to, and that’s all they care about.

Here, in Missouri, we elected all red politicians to state offices. We also voted for state amendments mandating a $15 minimum wage, required paid sick leave, and legal abortion.

Every centrist telling you they can’t win on Bernie/AOC politics is stupid.
