There absolutely are people, good people at Microsoft that do contribute a lot to free and open source projects. But Microsoft as a company has been horrible for 40 years. Never good for anyone unless perhaps you are working for them?

There are plenty of people at Microsoft that also help support OSS. A number of developers there also frequently contribute to FreeBSD.
