So glad I outgrew GTA back in the early 00s. I get its an ultra-beloved franchise, but after playing I-IV when they were originally released, I realized the formula never really changed aside from the online multiplayer. The lengthy development cycle on these games also leads to dated tropes and cultural references once the release window hits. I remember dipping my toes into V just to see if it would grab me like IV did. Within the first 2 hours, I was eye rolling and groaning at the dialog and character personalities. Full reign crime spree just doesn’t hit quite the same when you can just look outside your window for a comparable experience.
tldr: Unpopular old guy opinion.
