I was a deckhand on a tug boat for 1 year when I was 18.
Among my coworkers I had the most teeth, the least number of arrests, the least number of ex wives, and the least number of tattoos. I also was involuntarily involved in a felony that ended with one of my coworkers attempting to rape me. Also, working on the river during winter really sucked. Oh, and part of the job involved cleaning fertilizer out of empty barges, so now I have periodic chest scans to look for cancer. One of my other coworkers also tried to light a cigarette whole we were sweeping up the fertilizer dust.
I understood the value of a college education after that year.
