I moved my work’s dev environment after 12 years of giving DO money. Not much but add my middle finger to the pile.

Vote with your wallet. Yesterday I dumped all my Digital Ocean stuff, closed my account and let them know why.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I think the reality is the number of people who are so upset over this that they switch providers… is a rounding error.

Hey friends, your individual actions mean nothing, please continue supporting people making things worse.

Something website administrators could do is, block the DigitalOcean ASN (14061).

Some configuration may be required, it’s easier if you have some kind of WAF (firewall), but seeing that most traffic from their network are bots (92%), them being blocked would hurt their clients and inevitably lower their usage in the long run.

And additionally the vast majority of their money likely comes from large enterprise accounts, who couldn’t give two shits about dhh and omarchy, or who also actively support it, racist / fascist dog whistles and all

Digital Ocean grew because they targeted devs and hackers, and they introduced it into their companies. Same goes here. My personal account may not have been that big, but I also dropped DO from the list of recommend providers at work. They won’t be getting any new business from us. And when contract renewals start rolling around, projects will start moving to other providers.

Ah yea, I remember what it was like to see all those “we stand with Ukraine banners,” and the weird ones about antisemitism, but almost never the anti-apartheid and anti-genocide ones against actual Nazis. Yet here is another Ed Sheeran supposedly fighting the Nazis by being silent against the Nazis. Wonder what else you’ll find about him.
