Donald Trump’s bruising return to the White House has sent many longtime foreign allies scrambling to get their distance, and according to a new piece from The Atlantic, that distance will last long after Trump is gone.
Trump’s second term as president has been marked by notable and widespread disrespect toward nations once seen as close U.S. allies. Between his attempts to level massive tariffs against nearly every nation in the world and his frequent breaches of diplomatic norms, Trump has created a hostile global environment in which allies no longer feel safe trusting in the stability of the U.S.
In a new piece for The Atlantic on Tuesday, staff writer Vivian Salama argued that this new dynamic, in which the nations of the world are working to establish a safe distance from the U.S., is bound to become the new normal for years to come, even after Trump leaves office and is potentially replaced by a more traditional, dependable administration.
Because it’s not trump.

That’s the thing. I hear Americans saying to not blame them, this is all Trump.
Not so fast. The entire US government is failing from the middle out. Sure, Trump is an idiot manchild, but the entire US government is supporting him. The GOP fights dirty and don’t care about laws while the democrats completely stopped playing the game and sit on their hands. The citizens elected Trump twice, almost three times, and keep electing the other people around him supporting his insanity or unwilling to fight it.
The majority of US citizens wanted this to happen or allowed it to happen.
Generations of propaganda and lies, the dumbing down of the population combined with arrogance and hubris have accelerated the downfall of an empire whose only current goal is to extract all the wealth from the population.
A big aspect that gets ignored.
This is the second time Americans allowed Trump into office. If they can’t be bothered to walk across the street to vote, they can’t claim Trump doesn’t represent all Americans.
