    Could not or could care less are both grammatically correct if that is what you are getting at? I was raised not to do contractions as a kid. Long story (mom was a British war bride who would only allow “the queens English”).

      Could care less = “I could care less about this thing, if I tried harder.”

      Implying that you do care, but could potentially care less if pressed.

      Couldn’t care less = “I could NOT care less about this thing, even if I tried harder”

      Get it right, it’s important.
