        I wonder if this issue will fix itself with young people tending not to drink, get their license later in life, and a semi-online social life.

          Too broke to get drunk on $7 beers, too broke to buy a car, too broke to pay for gas… yeah, that definitely takes care of drunk driving.

            But the sad truth is that when some of those people become rich enough , maybe they win the lottery or land a job that has its pay stupidly inflated, theyll just drunk drive then.

            We have to take out this issue from the root of the plant not from buds.

            Why do people resort to drunk driving? I can think of 3 causes 1. not enough cheap public transport options when theyre drunk, 2. psychological problems or even self hate (there have been cases where a drunk driver admitted that they were trying to kill themselves when they drive into other people or into obstacles) 3. theyre in a hurry and have to get somewhere EVEN IF theyre drunk.

            1. can be solved with getting rid of all car centric infrastructure in our transportation, building more and easily accessible oublic transport and getting rid of car companies, plastic companies, and oil companies lobbying in politics , 2. can be solved with universal mental health care and making it easier to give aspiring psychologists the education they need to be trained as psychologists (so universal education too) and 3 can be solved by making it so that less people have to hurry to less things…so less hours worked, more forgiving appointment times, and rescheduling, daycares and schools trained and equipped take care of children for longer while their parents are sobering up

            EVERY.SINGLE solution I just proposed is impossible in our current capitalistic society because billionaires ensure thst they cannot exist…so ’ get rid’😘 of the capitalists and then BOOM solutions start to be worked on by the people.
