It’s not supposed to be a deterrent. It’s supposed to be a place for rehabilitation.
You’re not supposed to be able to leave prison until after you’ve received sufficient hours with a therapist to make you fully understand the harm you’ve caused others, empathize with the victims, and decided to correct your ways
Yeah that’s often not what prison is though. We can’t even care enough to invest in each other, nevermind investing in convicts.
