It’s been a few years since I watched it, so I had to look it up to check for sure on the language, and it’s funny as so many threads show up on movie forums asking where the heck all the subs are at, and everyone else responds “yooooo, that’s the whole point!”
It sounds both series cover the same content, but from fairly different POVs, so you should still get a unique experience from it even though you have major spoilers from having seen the new one. I hope you enjoy it!
Ok, I just finished the 80’s and holy shit. The new one is waaaa better than the original lmao. The only thing I think the original is better is in the Spanish pilot character. And know I need to read the novel to compare with each
It was good. It was an interesting read to compare both and see how they decided to show each and the difference on characterization. Specially Blackthorn that are basically two pretty different characters on each one. The 80’s one is more happy and interested on learning about japanese culture, whole the new one feel more grounded and just trying to survive another day to get the shit out of Japan. My wife felt that the 80’s version explained better the background political conflict, because of the narrator and the more explicit translation. While the new version was more show don’t tell and some of the motivations on the conflict could be lost if you don’t pay attention.
