Speaking personally, in a civilized society, we’d be as horrified at what’s been done to her as we are at what she actually did.
I am even more horrified about what’s been (and being) done to her, because it is coming from an allegedly “sane” group of people, whereas she was clearly a victim of insane abuse herself, not only that but also with actual organ damage from what I read about her case - I think substance abuse of her mother during pregnancy, and being a toddler in a room full of dog poo?
Occasionally, in this sadistic, cruel world, people snap. Sometimes even without having been victims of abuse themselves. Some are born psychopaths (but even then: is there a meaningful interpretation of “evil” in the sense that these people chose to be violent? Or does the problem start when their mind is in a place where effecting violence on others is even an option?).
But for a society to enact corporal punishment, it has to be truly barbaric and utterly depraved. Not to mention the torture leading up to that, with solitary confinement and decades of a literal blade hanging over your head.
Protect society from violent criminals, by all means, lock them up if that’s needed. But don’t expose them to cruelty. That is never going to make anyone a better person, it only turns those committing the cruelty into psychopaths. Also, regular inmates with lifelong sentences are cheaper to society than those on death row.
None of the cruelty brings her victim back to life. But the cruelty committed against the murderer may cause the next cruel and violent murderer from among the children of the tormentors of death row inmates, some of whom will suffer abuse by their psychopathic parent.
Truly the ones who deserve the death penalty the most are the billionaire Epstein-“Elites”.
Every single one of them is directly responsible for more death and harm than any serial killer.
Not to mention the downstream effects of wealth hording, which is of course poverty, and everything that stems from that…particularly, criminal behavior.
Oh and then they use their power and influence to pit us against each other. They literally are “the algorithm”, at this point.
No, you see, the reason you’re struggling isn’t because this guy is rich, it’s because of these other people who look different than you and are struggling even more. They’re the ones to be mad at!
As much as I agree with the sentiment, I am generally opposed to corporal punishment. Do they deserve a good beating? Sure. Should the state have the power to hurt people (other than in situations of immediate danger to others)? No. Absolutely not.
