Secure messaging service Signal is still ready to shut down its Canadian operations if Bill C-22, known as the Lawful Access Act, becomes law and is enforced.

Can you explain what you mean? I read the entire article and I didn’t see anything about budget or money. Are you referring to something that’s not in this article specifically?

    • There’s a species of fediverse denizen that loves to shit on Signal, probably the most heavily-audited privacy software around, with spurious and vague accusations. It is usually followed up with a recommendation for something with no audit, structural vulnerabilities, terrible UI, and infrequent updates that is mostly used by neo nazis (see, for example, Session or SimpleX). Best to ignore them. Signal is a non-profit and largely insulated from concerns of enshittification. There’s room for critique, of course, but the tinfoil conspiracies are kind of ridiculous.

Thank you for that response. I thought maybe they responded to the wrong article or something.

Signal is also used by Nazis. However that doesn’t mean much as many other things are used by Nazis.
