What I want is for you to stop defending it with “but everyone else is worse, so this is fine”

Both things can be true. Labor can be fucking up massively AND Shoebridge can still have made a serious error and shoved his own foot down his throat.

This is bad policy regardless of what other parties are doing.

      I said I didn’t support it.

It doesn’t wash though, when the government is as bad or worse. Especially with the allies they’re keeping.

It also doesn’t alter a couple of overarching premises…that adopting an approach of peaceful support, one we should have adopted years ago, is the mature option and that the Greens aren’t advocating support for Russia.

If this is a reason not to vote Green over Labor’s support for the Epstein Coalition (god that sounds cooker but it’s unfortunately too real) I don’t know what to say. That’s without adding not all Greens are on board, let alone something that would finally be decided in a Green or shared government. And without all the other dogshit Labor serve up to us in behalf of whichever going lobby of the day that doesn’t work for us.

Is it a dealbreaker for me? I don’t know, I’m still thinking about it.

Is it a dealbreaker for the Ukrainian community Shoebridge is actively speaking to saying “don’t turn away from us”? Yes. It absolutely is, and it’s absolutely right for this to be so.

He needs to own that policy choice to actively alienate the community he’s talking to. Not just lecture them about why his enlightened pacifist stance is so much better than “people I love are dying. Right now. Today”

Well, I’m afraid it’s no dealbreaker to me and I’m of the mind the governments position alongside the US is as big a threat to Ukraine as is Shoebridge’s position. Reiterating that I don’t agree with it.

I can’t speak for the Ukraine community; I’d imagine the view wouldn’t be popular, no.

My personal view is that in the event of a Green led government, the position would have to change under pressure. That other Greens don’t hold to it suggests robust discussion at least…unlike some parties.

That’s sort of my point. He’s laid out a policy stance that alienates a specific community, and now he’s blaming THEM for not finding him or his party trustworthy, telling them off for alienating themselves from the Greens.

They didn’t alienate themselves. He did.

However sound his reasons might have been or whatever else other parties might also be doing wrong…he has to own that policy choice, not blame the vulnerable minority community he’s upset by it for being upset

Well, at the end of the day they’re in Australia as Australians and like any other Australian, should be expected to judge a party in Australia on a range of things.

But yeah, it’s not the best look, at this time, in this world, which I guess is why I’m not fully on board.
