I’ve found that having an opinion helps in job applications, from personal experience. There’s so much AI garbage being thrown around in terms of job applications, so if you can throw in an actual opinion about something, especially if it’s tech related, then that might at least stand out.
laid off a few months ago and I’ve been searching for another senior software engineer role in the US for far too long and have gotten to the point where I’m unironically considering applying to places with a resume that is just a few bold sentences about my aptitude as an engineer.
Not because I think it’ll work, but because you just start grasping at straws when a decade of development isn’t enough to get past ATS and your resume looks like everyone else’s.
What have I got to lose? I only even get denials 40% of the time anyways, the other 60% they don’t bother responding at all.

How do you put an opiniom on a resume? Or are you talking cover letter which at least half of hiring managers don’t even read?
my CV has objectives, code skills, and infra skills right at the top: 1 para each
work experience also has some relatively plain english: achievements and responsibilities as bullet point sentences
all of these contain opinions somewhere… usually in the form of “i thought and pushed for this, worked great”
objectives is almost entirely opinion: the way i think about systems and what i want to achieve in a professional context
Interesting, sounds pretty different from the format typically recommended. Would you be willing to share (after taking out any PII of course)?
