Thid is something everyone needs to understand the day their signature becomes legally binding (ideally before): it doesn’t matter who gives it to you, it doesn’t matter how trustworthy you think they are, it doesn’t matter what anyone told you it says, it doesn’t matter what you think it says, it doesn’t matter how many other contracts you signed that look just like this one,

ALWAYS read the WHOLE contract BRFORE you sign it because once that ink is on that paper, there’s no going back.

Yeah, but also, you can break the contract and accept the consequences

Especially if you’re as financially secure as someone like Trejo.

And if they actually were duped, they might even be able to get out of it clean.

My grandma taught me this is a child. She had me sign a blank paper. Afterwards, she wrote “I love grandma”. I did in fact not love her and she duped me into it. I learned my lesson that day.

One thing AI is really good at is evaluating contracts. I am not saying to use it with the big name commercial tools, but running it locally and having it evaluate contracts, it’s been amazing. It’s like I actually read terms of service now, and I’ve been able to avoid some shady organizations whose contracts seemed just fine until I had them evaluated.

Go to hell. Literally, STRAIGHT TO HELL.

I had a major lawsuit against a previous employer. We’re talking very large amounts of money. When I was looking for a lawyer, I had to contact multiple lawyers, because it was hard to get them to take my case.

When the first lawyer responded that they wanted to take my case, they sent over a contract for me to sign. I didn’t have knowledge about legal language, and I had almost no resources. I put the contract into several of the major AIs, and they each told me basically the same thing, that the contract was extremely predatory, and NOT to go with this particular lawyer.

I did not sign that contract, and ended up going with another lawyer with a better contract.

This was DESPERATION, and it completely saved my ass.

HOW THE FUCK DARE YOU tell me I wasn’t allowed to use my only available resource to protect me in that vulnerable position I was in.

You are WAY out of line. WAY out of line. Your response was not IN ANY WAY appropriate.

I literally described a situation where I was a victim and didn’t have any alternative but to use AI and that it helped me avoid being abused.

You are the kind of person who taunts abuse victims.

              You have made that clear.

Yes, AI is good at summarizing text, but it’s not perfect and it’s not deterministic.‘that’s why they want to build out as much AI as possible while collecting and storing all online communications, so they can see who their political enemies are, so thwy can corner the markets before new innovations are announced, so they can have insider knowledge when to buy and sell their investments. So they can hold onto power forever.

It’s not a miracle machine, it’s not smart, It doesn’t think. It’s a ruse to get you to give up your autonomy.

By using AI to read contacts for you, you’re tacitly supporting unparsable, complicated contract language, which is the real problem.

Please read this response, and reconsider:

          https://lemmy.world/post/53111318/26366214

The problem had literally jack shit to do with me “tacitly supporting unparsable, complicated contract language”.

The problem had to do with me being in a disadvantaged position(particularly having just lost my job and having no money), and having no options.

What the hell else was I supposed to to do solve the very real problem I was facing.

Before you judge in the way you just did, put yourself in the other person’s shoes. People with no options using the only option available to them are not doing anything unethical, and to claim that they are is just flat-out disgusting.

The problem had everything to do with the predatory contract being unparsable, complicated contract language, because if it wasn’t, you wouldn’t have needed AI to summarize it. You could have simply just read it yourself. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not judging you, I’m not claiming you did anything unethical. I’m pointing out that using AI to read contacts is merely addressing the symptom, not the cause. I’m glad it worked for you, and if people need to use it in the near term out of necessity, so be it, but I think it’s important to point out the actual cause and get people to think of ways to address the actual root issue.
